Howling Woods
Help with the Halloween town builder
Write to us
Something not working, a question, or a town you want to show off? Email us and a person will read it.
howlingwoods@clacketyrock.comIf something went wrong, these help us fix it fast:
- What happened, and what you were doing just before.
- Your computer's details. In the game, open Settings, go to About and press Copy system info, then paste it into your email.
- The log file. Settings, About, Open log folder, and attach
howlingwoods.log.
Your towns
Every town is saved on your computer as you play, and again when you quit. A copy of each is also put aside every time the game starts, so a town that goes wrong can be brought back.
- Towns: Settings, Open save folder. They live in
%APPDATA%\HowlingWoods\saves - Backups: Settings, Open backups folder, in
%APPDATA%\HowlingWoods\backups
If a town will not open, do not delete anything. Write to us first: the backups can almost always bring it back.
If it runs slowly
- Open Settings, go to Graphics, and turn off Shadows, Occlusion and Bloom. Those cost the most on an older graphics card.
- On a laptop with two graphics chips, Windows may start the game on the weaker one. Open Windows Settings, then System, Display, Graphics. Add Howling Woods and set it to High performance.
- Keep your graphics drivers up to date. The game needs a card that supports DirectX 11.
Flashing light
Stormy nights have lightning. Settings, Graphics, Lightning: Soft is one slow swell with no flicker, and Off keeps the thunder but drops the light.
